Consignment Intake Hours
In an effort to minimize exposure in the store, all intake is arranged by appointment.
Please email consign@thevelvetcrease.com to book an appointment.
Pricing
Merchandise is priced to sell. If your item has high intrinsic value, please relay this during drop off so items may be represented appropriately. We do not put client articles on sale. Sale prices occur on stock items only. If there has been a markdown from our suggested price on your article then it has been negotiated when a client has displayed interest.
Timeline
Items will be consigned for 8 weeks, being that the eighth week is considered a processing week. No contracts will be accessible to view during this week as they need to be reconciled. If you request your items not to be donated to charity at the end of the contract, a period of 7 days will be allotted for the pick up of unsold goods. If items are not picked up they will be donated on your behalf. It is the responsibility of the consignee to know when their contract expires and when the donation date is. No phone calls are made so mark your calendar! Any monies earned during the contract are paid AFTER the last day of the contract. Any and all unclaimed monies are retained beyond one year of contract begin date and become the property of The Velvet Crease.
Seasonal vs Dates
Contracts are typically TWO MONTHS in length. When choosing items to consign, consider the season the contract dates envelope. For example, clients will be looking for elegant wear from mid-October in preparation of the holiday season. Having said that, it’s common for clients to disregard New Years until last minute due to Christmas planning, or due to late arrangements. Elegant wear contracts can be extended to include New Year’s to offer best possible sale-ability. If you are unsure of the types of clothing that are appropriate for the seasons, give us a quick phone call. We are here to help.
Donations
During the processing and pricing of your items, some pieces may not be selected for sale due to previously undetected faults, stains etc. that were missed during initial drop off inspection. These items will automatically be donated. The responsibility is on the consignee to check to see if all items are in saleable condition prior to bringing them in.
Fees
A small processing fee will be retained when a garment is purchased. This may be $2-$3 depending on the amount of work required during processing to prepare garment for sale. Items must be laundered, pressed, folded or on hangers, and in ready to sell condition.
Payouts
Pay outs are at the end of the contract. Consignees earn 40% of the sale price and The Velvet Crease earns 60%. A realistic approximation of earnings to consignee is 10-15% of initial investment.
Risks
Items are left at the consignees’ risk and The Velvet Crease assumes no responsibility for damage or loss due to theft, fire or flood.
Returns
All items purchased in store are a FINAL SALE. Consignee Contracts are credited daily when their items are sold. We ask that you try on your garment of interest and inspect it thoroughly before purchase.
On-line sales have a 1 week return policy after the shipment reaches its destination on STOCK ITEMS ONLY. The client will be offered an online credit for stock item returns if it is received in undamaged and un-used condition. Exchanges are considered if the item is still in stock. NO refund will be given. All other online purchases are a final sale. All CLEARANCE ITEMS are a final sale.
Please note that shipping costs, and return shipping costs are the responsibility of the purchaser and not the responsibility of The Velvet Crease.
The Velvet Crease is not responsible for any out of country delivery fees and expenses such as duty etc.
Home Visits
There are no fees for home visits but you must meet certain criteria. Home visits were designed for people who have an extraordinary amount of clothing, shoes, jewelry and accessories they need to sort through. These visits prevent clients from guessing at the items we are looking for and are a more efficient way of selection. Usually home visits take about 30 mins. I expect to take away over 20 items and they must be of considerable demand: gowns/dresses, purses, boots, shoes, jewelry, jackets etc. Home visits are for people who have a tendency to collect items that receive very little wear. Home visits are scheduled by appointment only. For more information please call 250-382-8849.
